tv at nursery

Hi
Son was talking to my husband this morning and saying that they watch tv at nursery, which is a state nursery near our home. Obviously I will talk to the school as he does have an imagination but I wanted to know if anyone else's little ones watch tv at school. I am inclined to trust him as he says he watches Charlie and lola which he has never seen at home, or anywhere else so wouldn't know about it. I am not very impressed that's not why they go to school!

If they do watch tv, is there anything I can do? It is really too late to move him as he won't have his funding anywhere else and he starts school in september. Thanks
Sarah

It depends how they use tv. Were they watching Charlie and Lola sharing after reading a book about sharing (for example). Watching with adults and talking about what they've watched is still learning. They will also watch tv at school.

If the tv is on all day and the children just sit watching it, then it's not so good.

Just ask them how they use it.

My dd told me that she watched the 3 Little Pigs on tv last week which ties in with what they're learning about so it doesn't bother me one bit.

My DS is 3 and he watches 20-30 minutes of TV at nursery after lunch each day as a bit of quiet time. He is there 8.45-4. I think it is probably a good thing for them to sit still for a short period as they are on the go all day!

DD no longer at nursery but yes, fairly normal. DD's nursery had 15 mins TV after lunch whilst they cleared away lunch things and set up beds for naps. They also watched TV occasionally if it tied in with something else eg phonics, wildlife etc.

Now she's at school they just play on iPads all day Grin.

Yes my dd is at a state nursery and they sometimes watch tv. From what she says it's just after lunch and only when it is raining so they can't go outside. It's a very good (outstanding) nursery so assuming its normal.

I visited a few nurseries and the TV was on at most of them. I didn't like it but understand they need to relieve staff for breaks etc.

They didn't flinch while showing me around (private nurseries) so I'd say its normal.
