I didn't label pants or socks, but gloves and hats definitely yes (I used sew in labels).

TwoToTango · 28/07/2006 12:56

I label anything that can be taken off, put down, lost or mistaken as someone elses. All uniform, shoes, caps, drinking bottles, lunch box and any books, toys etc that are ever taken in.

If you use the MN link to easy2name, you can get 10% off labels.

roisin · 28/07/2006 13:08

Will you be disappointed if stuff gets lost/misplaced/taken home by the wrong child? If so, label it!

these iron-on white transfers are great for socks.

Use username easy2name and password mums-e2n for a 10% discount. (Through mumsnet)

my DS has just left pre school and I only named his coat, jumper, shoes and hat.
Can't wait til end of holidays when I have to name everything ready for reception.....

TwoToTango · 28/07/2006 17:18

don't forget to label shoes as well

MangledToeNails · 28/07/2006 17:29

Never thought of labelling shoes. Don't the labels just rub off?

Littlefish · 28/07/2006 17:45

Defintely label shoes!!! As a new and inexperienced teacher, I once got all the Reception children in my class to take their shoes off and put them at the side of the hall. Half an hour later, they all put each other's shoes back on, and as very few were labelled, I then spent about 2 hours trying to sort out the mix up!

Sherbert37 · 28/07/2006 18:03

You can get special shoe labels. Also, start now as you buy things because it is the most boring job in the world.

Blandmum · 28/07/2006 18:13

Label shoes! Whatever you do label these. Clarkes etc only do so many types and there are bound to be kids with the same shoes.

You can always write their names on the inside in marker pen (slutty lazy mummy idea!)

cataloguequeen · 28/07/2006 18:13

Would def. recommend Easy2name brought some this year my dd1 needed them for 4 yr Provision uniform bought a combo pack of stick-on labels(for any smooth clean surface),shoe label covers and easytapes(for clothing) very easy to use no sewing or fiddling stayed on after frequent washing and tumble drying.

TwoToTango · 28/07/2006 18:15

I got some labels that are heel shaped here

roisin · 28/07/2006 19:31

Absolutely! Ds1 managed to lose two pairs of shoes this week ... since Wednesday actually
He is 9
Fortunately they were very cheap ones - bought specifically for messing about in the lake on Day Camps.

fridayschild · 31/07/2006 14:12

wow, I would have never have thought of the shoes needing names, thanks for your help guys

Label everything that will or may be removed, i.e. all but pants. Socks may seem OTT, but one pair of white knee socks looks pretty much identical to another!
