Does anyone else find fingerprinting children daunting?

I was shocked to learn that small children are having their finger prints taken, and stored on databases, to record their every movement: what foods they eat, what library books they take out. Having spoken to a friend of mine, who is a teacher, I learned that this is happening already in the school she works in, and that parents have no clue.

Pre-schoolers are having their photographs taken for 'evidence' purposes, every time they achieve something, throughout their day, and put into a report book, that includes pretty much every thing about them - (their likes/dislikes, weaknesses/strengths) parents are even being encouraged to write everything preschoolers do outside of school: imagine if this information fell into the wrong hands!

I think it's unneccessary. The UK is becoming far too Orwellian I think.

Sorry, I don't understand. How are the fingerprints used to track a child's every movement?

We were asked if we wanted to opt out and went and did it anyway.

Now my son's school pretty much everything is done by those scanners so I didn't see the point objecting this year... They did it anyway even if I did.

Bloody thread worms are more of a pain now though.

The weekend journals my youngest has to fill in really grinds my gears though. I won't do it and they're royally kicking up a fuss

I don't think it's some sort of conspiracy though to be clear but just doesn't sit right in my head.

Taking their pictures and recording their activities is to record their development.

What have they taken fingerprints for? At DD's secondary it's so she can pay for her lunch.

The photos are for EYFS evidence books, Gov requirement and all very standard. Lovely way of recording your child's achievements and development.
