My son keeps asking what is your name to people he knows!

Why does my 3.5 year old keep asking what is your name to people he knows and doesnt know? He constantly is asking....

My son did this or he would ask me what strangers were called while we were out. Just a phase

Mine asked everybody for a long time, he's a very friendly chap (too much so frequently) and I think this was his ice breaker.
My favourite video clip is of him asking if of a monkey at a sanctuary we visited!

If you think about it - it's what people ask him? "Ooh hello, and what's your name?". In a child this becomes what a greeting is while they're learning the language. So he's just saying hello but currently thinks that saying hello is "hello, what's your name?". He'll figure it out.

Almost my favourite bit of having a child was watching language develop.

It is probably just a phase but have you had his eyes checked? DS used to struggle to recognise people and it turned out he needed glasses.
