Choosing one nursery school at 3 but not for aged 5

I would like to hear the opinions of others on this topic please? There is a school at the top of my road with a nursery I am considering applying for my son for September 2014. Although I am considering the nursery (my son is 2 and a half) I wish to apply to another school where the entry is 5 as there is no nursery attached to the school. Could someone give me some stories on this and the protocols of taking a child out of a nursery school?

In the state sector, nurseries, or pre-schools, are completely separate entities with separate admissions from schools (reception year onwards). It's totally up to you how you do this.

At my sons' preschool, the majority of the chilsren went on to the attached primary school as that was their parents' choice.

However, about 3 out of the group went to different primary schools for the reason you are stating. Their chosen schools did not have preschools attached.

As far as I can tell its all turned out fine.

They're young enough to make new friends and settle elsewhere. However, unless you have a good reason not to choose the school that is attached i'd consider it. It helped my oldest child's confidence no end.

My child went to a different pre school and then a different school but that was because we moved so could not go up to the primary i can tell you the childrenthat go to the nursery and then go on to the reception class are allot more confident and some have made friends as well where as your child will be still gettimg used to the school but this is anyway not your fault as school has no nursery. All of the children in the class are new and only really applies if their is a school nursery attached dont worry your child will be fine

Even if the nursery was attached to the school- that does not necessarily guarantee your child a place in reception. If it is a state school you still need apply and it is usually decided by the Borough, I believe.
