I just dont know if she's ready

hi im going to enroll my daughter into preschool a few hrs a week to start jan maybe sooner. Shes 2 & a half yrs old but I still dont g think she's ready because she's still so clingy. she only stays with my parents without wanting me. anyone else and she us in tears. I work evenings so were together all day everyday and her dad doesnt live with us. when I think about how she will be I get upset.
if anyone has experienced the same please say it gets better.

Yes it gets better! Also Jan is a long way away so she may have grown up a lot more by then?

When you enrol try for 2 half days at least if possible say Tues/Thurs as it is a long time between sessions & that doesn't help settling.

Ultimately if you think in Jan she is not ready she doesn't need to go!

Oh also meant to add can you start going to more playgroups together or having friends over to get her used to being around other kids but with you there?

You can always wait. Either send next September or not at all.

In between try an socialise her more with local friends/ at groups where you stay etc etc

My 2.5 year old is outgoing and not shy, I still don't think he would be ready for nursery until next year

She seems to be spending all her time with her grandparents. That's what she's got used to. She just needs to get used to other people. Jan is a few months away so there is time. Do her grandparents take her out where she gets to see other kids? Like a park maybe? Are they too possessive? A lot of these things need to be considered. If you can try and spend more time with her. It's okay if she's a little upset initially. After all you are her mom. Preschool is a new experience for all kids. They eventually get used to it. Your daughter will too.

yhanks for the replies im waiting to hear from the preschool on mon to see joe long it will be. she foeznt dpend much time with grandparents really just 4 evenings a week so I can work. I take her yo lots of groups and dge has s feiend dhe sees lots so shes around children but im always there. like some of you have said ill see how she is. x

Nursery staff are used to nervous children. DFs DD wouldn't leave her mum's knee at toddlers, but our brilliant nursery teacher had no trouble getting her to settle at preschool.

I've worked with pre-schhol children for over 20 years.
They all start anxious and nervous and unsure. It's part of our role to help them settle in. And they all do. it might take us longer with some children, but that's children for you- all different and all with different needs.
