Raising our children to be responsible human beings

As parents, teachers and others who influence the lives of young children, we play a big role in instilling good values in them. How can we instill a sense of being a responsible citizen in our children?

We have a lot of discussions in our house (8, 6, 3), in which we talk about politics, ethical choices, inequalities, right and wrong. We do express our opinions (can be embarrassing when a 6yr old spontaneously reproduces your views on David Cameron to your friends), but also encourage them to draw their own conclusions about values etc. It seems to be working so far - but only time will tell.
