How to interpret end of year report?

My son received his end of year report and we're pleased with how he's progressed over the year, especially as he's had ongoing problems with his hearing.

Anyway, ds is 47 months and across all areas e.g. physical development, social & emotional development etc... he's got a tick in the 30-50 months box. He doesn't have any ticks in the 40-60 months. Does this mean he's doing ok for his age?

I asked my son's playgroup manager a similar question and got a bit of a garbled answer. I think it means that they have completed the one ticked and are working towards the next one up, but I'm not totally sure ...

You have to record the age bracket wherethe child is working solidly. So if they are just crossing over in to 40-60 they would still be 30-50. Anyway at 47 mnths he still falls into 30-50 so I wouldnt worry.

Remember that staff have to be certain the child can do the thing before they can include it.

Ineedmorepatience is correct- for a 'tick' to be in the 40-60 bracket the child needs to be consistently achieving these things. That is the trouble with using the EYFS as a checklist!

We have to do these reports as well, so to alleviate some of this anxiety (not to mention how it skews our stats) we have added the words achieving some, most or all. So if a child has met the majority of the 30-50 targets & is starting to achieve some in 40-60 we can put some, instead of a tick.

Honestly- unless they have flagged an issue with you during your discussions I wouldn't worry about this part of the report. It is literally a tick box
exercise and doesn't really mean very much. As a teacher I would only be concerned if a child was still in 22-36 or if they weren't achieving any 40-60 targets.

My daughter wasn't given any of the 40-60 targets either, she's 57 months, her reading is getting good and she's very interested in writing last few months which I presumed would be from nursery.
Also things I know she's capable of havent been ticked as confident as though they haven't really payed a lot of attention.
I'm not worried as I hope school will notice more just a bit annoyed at her seeming to fall behind on the report

We didn't get a box like that on DDs report? Should we?
