Closure of Council run Pre-school

Last Tuesday I was told that the preschool/ nursery that my 3 year old daughter attend, which is council run will be closing, we parents have to find a new place for this September. That is 3 weeks to find like for like education, the place is OFSTED outstanding. They have already asked for the hours that I wanted. There has been no consultation. It seems that the true reason for this decision is that Somerset county council have decided to use private funding initiatives for pre school, therefore the smaller pre schools no matter how good they are risk, as it's unlikely that they are profitable. This decision maybe made by other local authorities in this cost cutting era, and so the closure of one nursery might become a national issue.

Since Tuesday we parents have set up a facebook page, website, been in the local press, local radio, campaigned to local councillors who knew nothing of this. Please see our website

www.saveournursery.org/ On the website is a link to our online petition.

I feel if we don't act now, the nursery could actually close, I as a parent can't stand back and allow this to happen without fighting.

Sorry to hear this is happening, it is shockingly short notice.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if many more don't close suddenly in the next few weeks or early next school year, funding is so tight and there are the same increased costs everywhere has as well as the costs of producing new paperwork for the revised EYFS.
