Hi, i feel like such a terrible mother! im new here and im hoping some can help my question.
I have just found out that I should have applied for my child (3yrold) to start nursery school last year!! Im hopeless, is it too late for her to get a place at a school now? i was told they have given out their acceptance letters the other day. I am going to ring the council as soon as they open.
Can anyone shed any light on this, i would be very grateful, thanks in advance.

I would try ringing round and seeing if any have spaces and if not applying to go on the waiting list.

I don't know how your council do things, I'm based in SE London, but here it was a direct application to the school.

Just ring round the nurseries and preschools you like and see if any have places. You will not be the only person who didn't know to apply early. It might mean you don't have much choice in what hours you get, but you should be able to get a place somewhere.

I missed deadline for Septmeber 2012 start (my DS also 3 already) and put in late application to council

Letter arrived this morning. Didn't get place at nearest one which I pretty much knew would be the case, but they gave me names of those nursery schools that may have a place and I can put any of those down, send the form back again and wait a few more weeks and see if they can offer me a place.

Don't despair or beat yourself. It may well be there is a place available somewhere.

Phone the council and ask if there are any spaces at any of the nursery schools attached to infants/primary schools, (I assume that's what you mean) and if not just put your name on the waiting lists.

It has no bearing on them getting a place in reception (not in my LA and I'd be very surprised if that were the case anywhere) and they dont HAVE to go to nursery school, although you'd think it compulsory the way people go on about it.

Hope you get something.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
JunesTune you was right. I just came off the phone from my council who did the late application for me over the phone. I was told that I would get a letter in the post telling me which pre-schools are avaible for her to go to. I'm relieved!
Thank you all again.
