sports dress day costume - help!

DS's preschool has a sport-themed day on Friday. They are supposed to go in the costume of their favourite sportsperson, or if they don't have one, their own sports gear.

DS has nothing. We are not sporty one bit, don't watch it, don't play it. He has no football/rugby/cricket anything, and because I'm not sporty I can't even think what to do! I don't want to shell out silly money on stuff he'll never wear again either (and the charity contribution for the day is a whole quid - I've seen the prices of footie shirts...)

I already accidentally sent him in uniform for the last mufti day which he found embarrassing, so I don't want to do it again!

Can anyone help please?

I'd just send him in T-shirt and shorts and trainers. Perhaps if the T-shirt were stripy it might look abit more sporty Grin
If not there are loads of other sports that are abit more unusual - swimming, cycling, snooker, archery, fencing. Perhaps you could get away with more 'ordinary' clothes if props were used?

Does he have joggers and a sweatshirt/hoodie type top?

If so dress him in those but put his swimming trunks on underneath instead of underpants. Tell preschool his sporting hero is Tom Daley the diver, but it's far too cold to just turn up in speedos. Grin

mmm thanks... food for thought.
actually I think he did get given some branded (perhaps Nike?) jogging stuff last Christmas but it got filed away because it was waaaay too big... I wonder... must go and dig out the cupboard and see if I remember correctly, and see if I need to get the sewing box out to shorten anything. Would certainly solve the problem!

Props - hmmm - I could borrow a cricket bat though knowing DS, he'd probably crack someone around the head accidentally with it! Grin Likewise plastic golf clubs!!!

Yeah, don't think I'd trust my LO with a cricket bat at nursery.

You could make a batton so he could be a sprint team? Maybe speak to some of his friend's mums and you could make a team...

Alternatively, make an Olympic medal (silver will be easiest with tin foil)

heh - we found a tracksuit in the end. Least next year he'll be more likely to know some sports people.
