Closure of Bright Beginnings Pre-School - Hessle, East Yorkshire

Hi all

First of all I have to admit I am Dad rather than Mum, I hope that is ok! Wishing there was a dadsnet right now!

I need some help, we received a letter from our Daughters (Eva aged 3 and a half) yesterday stating that they were closing on the 16th December.

They have offered no explanation for this, but have offered a place for Eva across the other side of town (10 miles and 20 minutes drive) in their other Centre.

I can not get in contact with the owners of Bright Beginnings, they simply do not answer the phone.

The LEA say they will get back to me, but of course they don't

I have called all the 'pre-school' providers in the local area and they are all full. One is trying to get the LEA to allow them to take more, but as you all know with things LEA/Local government related these things simply do not happen fast, which due to time constraints we need them to.

Questions:

Are they allowed to close a registered pre-school centre in this manner? If this were the private sector they would be contracted and have to meet that contract or be in breach.

Is Eva guaranteed a pre-school place? I understand she is entitled, but must the LEA find a her a place no matter what? If so what are the conditions on this, can they say well there is this one across town (in another LEA actually) take it or leave it?

What should I be doing to try and move this situation forward and find a resolution?

Thanks all

Matt Houldsworth
