We are having problems getting parents to join our committee and I was wondering what the things are that put people off.

Thanks for any help!

I did it quite willingly for a few years and now can't wait to leave. I think my main reason was the sheer amount of work that actually goes into being chair or treasurer and the constant whining from the staff.

But apart from that I was quite happy to join to start with.

The fact that I can't attend meetings without finding childcare first. I'd imagine that's true for a lot of people.

Scared of being legally responsible for stuff. Scared of ending up doing Everything.

It's thankless.

Kid's are there for a relatively short time so would rather volunteer for school or local community stuff.

I would do specific tasks though if they asked e.g. establish and update website, do publicity etc.

I wouldn't mind, but I'm a bit shy and not sure if I would be what they were looking for, as I haven't met the other parents yet.

Happy to volunteer "as and when".
