If your child is starting school in Sept, is your nusery demanding a leaving date already?

Just curious because mine wants to know when ds is leaving by next week.

His school staggers the intake so he might not start till mid-late September. I won't know his starting date till mid June

So I have to decide whether to book him in for weeks he might not need, which will be expensive, or risk being without childcare for a few weeks - not sure quite how I would work in that case!

I've never heard of this. Most nurseries only require one month's notice when a child is leaving - I'd check your nursery's terms & conditions if I were you.

Our nursery has asked us to let them know at least one month in advance.

I'd tell them that he will be leaving between such and such dates and that you'll give them the exact date as soon as you know it.

Is he the only one from his nursery going to a staggered intake school, or will there be others in the same boat?

What does your contract say?
If you wanted to give them some information you could write to them and reassure them that the leaving date will be before October, and you will inform them of the actual leaving date with the notice perios specified in your contract.

The contract says two months notice to leave.

They say unless you give them an alternative date, they will assume you are leaving on Aug 31.

I think all the schools round herre stagger the intake.

Can you just tell them late september, and then in late june inform them of the actual leaving date (which would then be more than 2 months away)?

Acanthus · 05/05/2011 21:23

Yes, tell them late September and then if it is earlier make sure you give them two months' notice.

Rosebud05 · 05/05/2011 22:31

If the contract says 2 months notice, surely you don't have to do anything until end of June/beg of July when you'll know the date for sure.

Otherwise, what carsareevil says. What are other parents doing?

They're trying to plan their new admissions, which is fair enough, but two months notice is very reasonable for all concerned.

At our preschool they want 3 months' notice, but just notice of general plan to leave in the fall- I can let them know the exact date closer to the time so it works out fine.
