DD1 is 3 and goes to nursery for 3 full days a week, but will she need to go to preschool as well from September? She will start primary school in September 2012.

TIA

No, not at all. Lots of children go straight from day nursery to school without attending pre-school. The only benefit would be to meet some of the people she will be going to school with in advance.

a nursery room aged 3 plus is considered pre school (depending if you are in the uk) and we use the same frame work as preschool does but are with the children from birth (sometimes) so have a greater understanding of the childrens development and how to progress them onwards

if the nursery you are attending is near the school you want your child to attend then they will more than likely meet someone at the nursery who will be going to the same school when it is time ask the staff if they know which children are going to what school and if they have a list so you can see who is going where

Hello I had a similiar dilemma with my dd, in the end I put her in the local preschool just one session a wk as no one from her nursery was going to her school and I hoped it would help familiarise her and make some friends.

TBH am not sure in hindsight that there was much point, it might have helped a little bit but not much and I wish really I had just made more of the time we had left together before she had to go to school iyswim?!

Thank you.

Think I'll just stick with nursery then, I work the days she is there, so it would be a nightmare trying to rearrange things so she could fit in preschool as well.
Some of the children from the nursery will be going to the same school as her, so she will already know some of the children going to the school.
