Just a few nursery questions...

First one: I applied for a place at the local primary school nursery for DD a good few months ago as she will be due to start in August (I'm in Scotland). Just wondering when I should hear about whether she got a place and what sessions she has been offered? I know they prob won't forget about DD but don't just want to sit here in case a letter has been sent and it's been lost in the post or something.

Second one: DD was born 12 March 2008 so is starting nursery around 3y 5m. Now does she get 2 years of nursery meaning she would start P1 at 5y 5m or just 1 year of nursery meaning she'd start P1 at 4y 5m? (I always assumed it was 2 years but then I hear of wee ones starting school at 4...)

Everything online always seems to be aimed towards the English school system and I know the Scottish system is a bit different...

Here in Cheshire we find out on Friday, by logging on to local council site, when you applied did you get any confirmation of your application being received? You should have by post or email. Also when you applied were there not any guidance notes about when you should hear?

You need to call you local education authority and ask them all these questions as they all differ as to what they do slightly, do it today!

No. I just handed the application form into the school and they said I'd hear around April. Never had any confirmation of the application and there was nothing on it to say exactly when I should hear back... Might just wait until all these bank holidays are over and then call the school and see whats what.

You should have heard about your nursery place by now - phone the council and ask for the department that deals with nursery places, don't bother with the school. I'm in east Ren, by the way, my friend heard a couple of weeks ago.

You will get two years at nursery, ante-pre-school and then pre-school. She will be almost the oldest in her year and everyone keeps saying it's such a good thing!

Thats a relief to hear. I had visions of her being carted off to P1 at 4 years old. Under 5 just seemed too young, so being nearly 5 and a half seems a lot better.

OK, I will look up the number tonight and give the council a ring tomorrow and see whats going on with her place.

Thaks all. :o
