I get told there are no places available for my nearly 4yo DS - have to enrol him in the next academic year (August 2011). Do I wait it out, or do I find the next nearest primary school with attached preschool nursery?

Anyone else been in this situation when moving to another district. The daft thing is the new school would only be 2 minute walk from the new house! Don't know what to do. Any advice please??

Ring LA (assuming you are in England) and ask to go on waiting lists of those nearest, but probably only possible once you have exchanged/moved in.

We already have the house.the Exchange completed on Friday.live in Scotland.will just keep him out of preschool until the new school year begins.a few months isn't too long, I suppose!

TBH he will need time at home with you to settle and get his bearings. He is very small and is likely to regress and be clingy after the move.

A new home and new school would be too much for him - IMO and IME.

If you don't need him to go for childcare then I'd keep him at home until Aug. Agree with 3littlefrogs that you can concentrate on settling him into the house and area (go to playgroups, tumble tots or similar). It would be tough to have to settle him into another preschool and then move him when the place comes up.

As he is not yet 4 he would only start school Aug 2012. Attendance at the nursery attached to school does not guarantee a place at the school. As he is currently eligible for preschool funding you can take that funding anywhere - any nursery, private or other pre school setting.
