Have a home visit on Friday from dd1's nursery teacher .. what should I expect?

DD is due to start nursery this month and she we are meeting her new teacher this Friday for the first time.

What will the teacher want to know? What questions should I ask?

Our home visit for reception was the main class teacher and teaching assistant. They had a drink and biscuit and we ( including my son) sat at the dining table. They gave me some booklets on school stuff. Then he showed them his toys and they played. Then the 3 of them went to his room and he showed them more toys.

They did check out our bookcases of kids books - in a nice way.

Greet them with big smile and stick some of their 'art work' up !

I'm a bit worried as dd2 is only 7 wks and may require a b'feed when they are here - not sure how I feel about popping a boob out in front of dd1's teacher - have no idea how she would feel either.

DD1's artwork is pinned up on the fridge, may move it into a more noticaable position

I wouldn't worry about BF in front of her. She may wipe your chin, wipe your nose, brush the biscuit crumbs off you and take you to the loo as she is used to little ones bodily functions. Teacher will be only there 15-20 mins and your DD can entertain her.

The joy is that your child meets her teacher in the place where she is most secure - at home, with you This sends out such enormously positive messages to them and can really help this next step.

The teacher will not be testing you! Offer them tea, they may well not have time for one, for goodness sake, switch off the tv!! This is a good time for you to ask questions. Jot them down if you like.

Your child may have something they'd really like to show, it's a good starting point for a chat.

Don't worry about feeding your baby!

They are not coming to inspect you. We do home visits, primarily because it's often a lot easier to have a confidential, uninterrupted conversation with the parent at home rather than in nursery.

Many 3 year olds are more forthcoming when they're on their own turf, so it allows us to see what the child is like without many of the inhibitions and anxieties associated with their first visit to nursery.

And by welcoming the nursery teacher into your home, you're sending the message to your child that this is a trusted adult.

We seldom have a cup of tea although it's often a good icebreaker to be offered one. And most of us have children of our own and we all have breasts so we wouldn't be fazed by a parent BFing her baby.
