What’s protocol in finding out about my DS’s day at nursery?

I've moved house and started my DS at a new nursery - at the end of every day parents queue to speak with one of the staff to find out how our DS or DD got on that day, what they ate, how they slept etc, but sometimes there are a few too many parents in front of me and DS wants to leave and go home. His old nursery gave me a printed sheet of his daily activities etc, what's the protocol? Do most nurseries give out daily reports, or was I just being spoiled with it at my old nursery?

How old is DS?

DD's old nursery varied this by age group. WIth the babies you got a written diary, young toddlers it was a brief summary sheet, 2 year olds you got a brief chat (if lucky), 3 year olds there was weekly newsletter.

I think it is "normal" in nurseries to give you less information as the child gets older (also the adult/child ratio gets larger so writing daily records is more onerous) and can talk for themselves. I would expect the staff to mainly tell you about "exception" cases e.g. if your child normally eats well and sleeps for an hour after lunch then they would tell you if this "didn't" happen.

Oh, I see; thank you! He's 2 and a half. So I suppose that fits in with the cut back in info. What a shame. I love knowing what he's got up to - is that terribly clingy of me? Feels like you have to 'let go' of them far earlier than I really want to!

I would raise this issue with the staff. There should be sufficient staff and time for you to find out about his day.
Would it be possible to collect him a little earlier, so you get the key person all to yourself?
