Book recommendations

Anyone got recommendations for good reference books covering general knowledge ( say, for example, how to purify water) needed in different scenarios?

If the Internet is down, being able to look up and find answers to questions you might have could be vital.

Good idea. I've got a small book called Sanitation Without Water which I picked up in a charity shop years ago as I could imagine it might be useful in an emergency. Other than that all I've got is a good first aid manual.

Following with interest. I have found a couple of gardening books from the 60s! But other stuff is a black box for me and actually you make a very sound point about what to do when the internet goes.

Bear Grills has a really good book on all sorts of different scenarios and the SAS also have a really good book along the same lines. Both books are available on Amazon, Waterstones etc.

I have one of the SAS books, which covers a lot of things.

I also have books about:
Gardening - various
Making chutneys/jams/pickling
Dehydrating- with an electric dehydrator which i dont actually have!
Foraging
Bread Making
Sewing - various books/patterns as it is a hobby.
Using herbs etc to cure illnesses.
