I have just had the chimney swept, had some logs delivered, got me thinking I should prep for Winter.
How do you prep for Autumn/ Winter?

I don’t.
There’s hardly any difference between the seasons now.

There are quite a few threads on here already if you are interested.

I need wash and sew my woollies. Moth eaten and worn out base layers, but they are expensive and not seen by anyone outside of family so they get darned.

Other ideas: grit salt for the drive/paths

Winter car prep.

Stormy weather prep. (Power banks, lanterns etc)

Ensuring you have food in for power cuts.

In terms of outside, I get the gutters and drains cleared. Check the general condition of window and door exteriors, downpipes and roof, Insulate any exposed pipework. I also move the greenhouse and bins to a more sheltered spot and secure our shed against strong winds/storms.

Inside I get our boiler serviced, bleed radiators if needed, get the draft excluders down from the loft and rugs for the wood floors downstairs,
change the duvets to the winter ones and add blankets to each bed, check the condition of hot water bottles, make sure the kids wellies and coats fit, if not buy them new ones.

I also check our emergency box which contains supplies for bad weather and/or power cuts
-pillar, stick and tealight candles
-12 x match boxes
-10 x lighters
-batteries
-5 x torches
-2 x 20000mah power banks
-camping stove and gas bottles
-several sets of fairy lights

I add umbrellas, winter hats and gloves to the cabinet next to our front door and a bunch of those instant 12h hand warmers. Also ensure I have an extra months supply of prescription medication and OTC medicine.

Theres probably loads I’ve forgotten but that’s what I can remember off the top of my head

I wash and dry all the heavy quilts while the weather is warm so that they are clean and fresh when it gets cold.
