Windup radio

Considering the electric power outrage in Spain, Portugal and parts of France in the recent past, I am thinking of buying a windup radio. Has anyone bought one and can they give any personal experience.

Had two. I dropped one and broke it.

I'd look for wind up, solar powered, battery radio. They only gave a limited band width if you go for a little one. Enough for radio 1-4 and local radio.

I find keeping it on a window sill gives you a good charge and you can listen to an hour or so of radio. They both were a bit dodgy on reception so get a good long aerial on it. The new one is better. You probably don't need torch function (but mine came with that). Get a separate lantern/torch.

Asda did small battery run radio (not solar, not wind up) which I also gave for travelling. That's another option if you don't want to spend as much.

I used to have a Sony ICF-B01, wind-up or battery powered, AM/FM with a built in torch. Unfortunately I broke it (it had lasted me about 15 years) and have been looking to replace it since. I've considered getting another second-hand off of ebay, but since it hasn't been in production for years I'm reluctant. Plus, AM is not very useful, FM/DAB would be better.

Anything I've seen advertised is by an unknown brand; so far I haven't been tempted by anything I've come across.

I have a Duronic one https://duronic.com/collections/eco-radio-radio-torches without going upstairs and looking I think it was the sold out one but the next one up looks ok too. I bought it at the time because it had good reviews, tried it when I bought it and it seemed to work fine but have not really used it since, because it was for emergency use. I should test it again really.

I think it was the duronic one that I dropped.

When I'm feeling better I'll look at the other one.

I bought a combined radio and torch a few years ago which could be charged by USB, wind-up, or solar. Worked pretty well when I first got it. Torch was fine. Picked up a good few radio stations too.

Brought it out coming up to storm season this winter and it wouldn't charge. I left it on the window cill for a few days and nothing. Wind up... Nothing. Usb, diddly. Despite not using it, I was obviously outside the returns time too.

So I never actually got to use it when we lost power for almost a week after Storm Eowyn when we could really have done with it at times.

I might replace it but will probably go with a cheap battery one instead.

I got one off Amazon. It's a wind up but also USB/Solar charging, has a torch, Can charge my phone from it.

@SummerySunshine8 yours looks a lot like my one. Hard to know as there are several on amazon that look the same! Have you had it long? I had mine maybe 2.5 years but never used beyond trying it out when I first got it, and, as I said, it unfortunately would no longer charge for me this year.

'Wind -up radio'. Is that an alternative name for the Today Programme?
