Preppers

Woefully underprepared

Hello. I am not a prepper but this weekend my town suffered severe flooding which was scary, disastrous and at one point the police told us to leave within 5 minutes. 😰 Obviously I grabbed the most random selection of items, none of which were the things I actually needed. 🙄 Anyway, not sure what the point of this is but I wanted to get some thoughts down as we're still in shock. Off to read some advice threads!

This could happen to any of us

It IS scary

What random things did you grab?

What random things did you grab?
A change of clothes and a toothbrush - sensible
Passports - where the hell did I think I was going??
Notebook - ??
Random sentimental jewellery- left the only valuable item!

With 5 minutes notice, those are pretty good items to grab.

Off the top of my head the only other things you should take are essential medicines & important documents (home insurance policy).

So now you have realised that you need a or several bug out bags/go bags depending on the size of your household. Change of clothes, important documents, medicines and a first aid kit. Emergency power bank and leads for charging phones, snacks, bottled water, bank cards and some cash, toiletries, tissues, bin bags, pen and notebook, pack of cards, childrens soft toys etc. There is lots of good advice on here and online generally about what to pack. Hopefully there will not be a next time, but if there is you will be more prepared and the bag will be suitable for other emergencies too 😊

Change of clothes and toothbrush is good.

Passport = photo id. Useful so good.

Notebook. Excellent. If the worst happens, you will have contact with a lot of people and organisations. Notebook is essential.

Sentimental jewellery. Good. We all have a life we love so good to have something tangible.

In an emergency, you did really well.

Op got the notebook!

Freemanhardyandwillis · 22/10/2024 20:30

I didn't even know a notebook was recommended! Not feeling so bad now.
