This popped up on my YouTube. I watched him during the pandemic. I know some now see him as controversial.

What do you make of this on the back of sky news?

European nuclear risk

You can't prep for a nuclear war. What's the point?

Get the iodine in if you want to feel like you're doing something, but personally it's not something I want to live through.

LovelyJublee · 01/06/2023 12:48

It's not about nuclear bombs. It's about an existing plant in Ukraine having an accident. .

Thanks

Yes, I am definitely concerned about this. In practical terms I think general prepping is useful, like most things. I think for me it gives a sense of control, related to things which are absolutely out of my ability to control.

I have 4 2litre bottles of water coming on Monday. That should tide us over.

I remember Chernobyl, although was a child.

Will it be a 48 hour shelter in place?

Who, really, on a parenting forum, can answer that question, OP? None of us know what the "plan" is in this situation. And someone saying they do is both lying and pandering to your anxiety.

PledgeNo · 01/06/2023 14:47

Do you go around diagnosing and medicalising every MN question?

You don't know, ok, have a nice day.

I comment what I think, which is the actual point of this platform.

This isn't a medical question and you have no evidence of qualifications.

It was a practical question to deal with preparation for a potential weather issue ( that's who I remember giving updates as a child) and nothing to do with mental health issues.

It's not a mental issue to deal with plans for putting clothes out to dry on a wet day or when is a good day to cut the grass. I dal with laundry etc in a regular basis so don't need advice.

Have you considered that you may be projecting your stuff into me? That is what I think is happening here, as I know I have no anxiety going on, just problem let's find a solution stuff going on for me.

Can I just say, if it fucking rains, like after Chernobyl, and there's a stay inside recommendation in Wales, don't fucking send your kid to school in the rain in the East Midlands. (Wales had radioactive sheep for a while, the farmers couldn't sell)

On the plus side, I'll be ok if the electric goes off as my head'll fucking glow!

Ps anybody'd think this is the preppers board! Wink

BlackeyedSusan · 01/06/2023 15:45

Seriously, think what grows between here and Zaporizhzhia. Or downwind in prevailing weather. Will there be a shortage of that for a while if land is contaminated like happened here. Can you stock up now or find an alternative?

Thinks I may consider randomly is having enough food in so.you don't have to go out.
Entertainment for the kids(new video, pop corn, game etc)

It sounds like it would be a bit like your COVID plan. Look that up. There were millions of threads on here about it.

We will have to go without olives and tomatoes for a long time if it rains and blows into southern Europe.

I have never been one to shop each day for that days meals, like old mother Hubbard. I can always russel up a few days meals.

We are fine for entertainment too thanks. I just needed a bit of bottled water.

I have no anxiety around a power plant blowing up thousands of miles away. It is not within my control, nor is there anything I can do about it. If you worry about every single thing that could happen to threaten your life, all you will do is "prep". Live your life instead. It may be prudent to have iodine tablets, a back up water supply, etc etc. but as I said, no one here will know anything about enforced invacuation or anything like that. By worrying about it you clearly have some anxiety around it. That's not a medical diagnosis, that is fact.

Worry definition:
1 feel or cause to feel anxious or troubled about actual or potential problems.

It's the prepping board FFS, literally the place for discussing this kind of thing

I am just ignoring her now.

I ordered in extra water and asked a question, now I am being made out to have bitten nails and a bunker with Ak47s 😀on order.

Out of curiosity, where on earth do you get reliable iodine tablets with a dosage strength high enough to help in this situation?

The Dam helped provide drinking water, irrigation and to cool the nuclear plant. BBC news has set up a live feed.
