I keep seeing mention of these and am intrigued, on its face it seems a good idea. In case its passed you by like me, its a box that contains things you need in a powercut that you don't use at any other time, I've seen the expected things like torches and candles, but also things I didn't expect like decks of uno and playing cards.

Do any of you have one? What do you have in yours? Does it mean you end up doubling up on supplies like torches etc?

We're rural and not a powercut box at such I do keep stuff on a shelf in the kitchen and playroom that'll be handy in a powercut. Kettle that goes on woodstove (life is bearable with a cup of tea) frying pan that lost it's handle but has a lid also works on wood stove. Playroom we have spare torches and little battery powered tea candles as I bought a large box one halloween and working my way through. Keep a decent stock of uht milk, easy to eat/ heat tins regardless. Matches and firelighters kept beside woodstoves. Charged up powerbank and download stuff onto the ipad just in case.

I have a cupboard where I keep candles, matches, torches, batteries, camping stove and gas cannisters. They are always stocked up so I know where to find them in an emergency, but I would also use them at other times too. Apart from that I would think that if your house is well organised you would be able to find what you need when you need it. I don't see the point of having Uno cards in a special box which may never be used!

i have something like this.

I have a pack of candles with matches taped to the front next to the fuse box.

that’s about it but I know where everything else I need in the house is.

we have board games and books so don’t need anything special for entertainment just lighting and the ghillie kettle.

I've got a power cut box. It's under the cupboard in the lounge, where it can easily be found.

I've got a head torch, 3 storm lamps to hold tea lights and a lighter. A trangia for cooking, along with some cup a soups/hot chocolate and coffee sachets. There's fuel on a shelf in the kitchen.

And there's also a power bank, I need my phone for the alarm clock. Uno cards haven't made it in there yet, but they are in the lounge anyway!

I have one, contains a camping stove, gas bottles, torches, batteries and candles plus a few of those 12 hour reusable hand warmers. We also have 3 power banks

We live in the country and some years get a lot of power cuts. We have a cupboard near the kitchen with a camping stove, camping kettle, lanterns head torches, dry shampoo, lighters, batteries ect. We have another cupboard in the main bedroom with board games, cards, word search books, radio, batteries more lanterns and head torches but most importantly my emergency supply of treats and snacks that are only for power cuts. Its nice to have some treats and a glass of wine when you are cold and its dark. We actually look forward to power cut games nights.
