While I appreciate people have wanted to leave things as a mark of respect, the amount of waste eeek

I just wish they had pre thought this happening and instead had an area in some of their grounds where people could plan a tree for a couple of pounds and created a Queen Elizabeth memorial woodland. something that could grow and be a lasting tribute and help the planet

I agree. The waste is offensive, isn’t it.

bellinisurge · 14/09/2022 17:31

I look at it and think "cool compost stuff". But then I see the plastic and the dip dyed flowers. And I think "that's going to be work for someone ". A better tribute, rather than queuing , would be to volunteer to gather the flowers up and get it ready for composting. I'd offer if I lived in London.
Obviously, the best tribute would be to donate to an environmental project. Or a food bank.

The waste has been makings me very sad. All that plastic wrapping. Marmalade sandwich in sandwich bags come with a double whammy of unreacyclable packaging and attractive to rats. I can understand people taking flowers from their gardens a little more. But overall it is just so pointless.

Badger1970 · 14/09/2022 20:44

It's just so utterly utterly pointless, and I'm annoyed that the RF didn't pre-empt this and ask for donations to something like woodland or country parks.

Why anyone thinks rotting flowers is a tribute to anyone beggars belief.

Maireas · 14/09/2022 20:45

All the flowers are going to be mulched and recycled.

CaramelTwirl · 14/09/2022 20:47

The flowers will be made into compost. Also flower sellers have had a massive boost.

Oh, I agree so much.
I want to do something significant so decided to plant a tree. After investigation about best impact, I've given a donation to the Woodland Trust because they seem to know where it would be most helpful. I'm pleased to think that I've contributed to the queen's green canopy - and I'd like to think she'd be pleased too
