Preppers

"If the grid goes down in July 2022" series. No idea if YouTuber is any good. Might be of interest

Don't really know this YouTuber (jills journals) but, like Prepper Princess and Prepper Pot Pourri, it's always interesting to see women preppers. She's in the US (of course) in a rural community. She appears to be doing a series of "What if" vlogs.
Again, no idea if she's going to start with any God stuff which is a massive turn off for me - well, not literal turn off because I still want to hear if there are any gems of info from god botherers like say, Prepsteader (another female US YouTuber).

Finally got round to watching it. Quite thought provoking.

I don't have a short wave radio for a start.

Also she had stuff but it was not ready to go...(eg a water tank not full) a reminder to overhaul preps regularly.

I was watching some vlogs by English Country Life on YouTube this afternoon and they have a couple of videos in the past couple of months about coping with a 1 night powercut generally and a longer powercut for light. They plan a few more shortly on other aspects of managing in a powercut.

The 2nd went from a single candle to oil lamps, kerosene and paraffin lamps, petrol lamps, gas lamps and rechargeable battery torches and lamps.

It was a sensible discussion on pros and cons of each - quite practical.

@BlackeyedSusan - I used to work abroad in remote places in the 80s : a short wave radio was essential. I've still got that one. Worth getting one to have a play with it. There's currently plenty of English speaking stations across the world although obviously, in an extreme situation, just the sound of a human voice would be great.
@BiddyPop - thanks for the tip.

I know someone with a short wave wind up radio...they had it when they lived in Africa for a bit. They are walking distance away.

Listening to the next video (day 6) makes one realise how little I know about edible plants. ( Knew about dandelions, Hawthorn leaves, blackberries and nettles.

I have a batch of elderflower champagne on the go.

I grow spring onions on the windowsill they do really well here.

I haven't planted some of the stuff I wanted to but we have to work in the amount of energy and health I have.

I lasted about 30 seconds on the country living site. I have taken refuge in apartment prepping videos. Grin

I am at that stage of illness where the brain wants to do all sorts of mad ideas but the body is refusing to get up and pack the football bag... And wash up. <Sigh>

My dreams for preparedness and SHTF have swerved over the years between a smallholding and a self-sufficient yacht...there are issues with both but there are also good opportunities with both to escape the pandemonium and sort myself out and find/grow resources for myself.

But I had to give up my allotment 10 years ago this year (when it was just too much work and too far away from home to be convenient on top of a very stressful job, caring for DD, and being solo 50% of the time to run the house etc). I really miss that. So I have a broad range on my youtube of sewing, sailing, veg growing/homesteading and preparedness channels...so I do a lot of vicarious dreaming until I get a lot closer to retirement age (20 years away this year) and grow the occasional tomato in a hanging basket...
