Saw this posted on another thread. Apparently huge numbers of people are expected to be isolating in the coming weeks as cases skyrocket. This will undoubtedly have a knock-on effect on food deliveries due to staff shortages. I also wouldn’t be surprised if people are scared to go to the supermarket when masks and distancing are removed on the 19th. Book your grocery delivery slots now! I’m also going to be stocking up my cupboards a bit.

Yes, fortunately I maintained stocks ever since lurking on the brexit cupboard thread.
I was very relieved that I had done so when we had that episode of not being able to get much when covid first hit.
I still wonder if that was panic buying or just the cumulative effect of lots of people just stocking up a bit in case of isolation.

I suspect the latter, and seeing how quickly our supermarket locally looked like there had been a plague of locusts, I think it's only sensible to always have a couple of boxes of long life food, and a full freezer. If, of course, you can afford to.

Just because rules are relaxed doesn't mean you have to. I will continue to wear a mask on public transport, keep my distance etc.

Also do not think there will be any problem with deliveries. There wasn't in the second or last lockdown, nor was there a shortage of any goods.

Yup, I’m gradually going to add a few extra bits. Still got a healthy store cupboard but was gradually running it down.

prettyLittlefool · 11/07/2021 12:46

I don't think this is a panic buy situation. I imagine only a tiny proportion will be scared to visit stores. For most it will be back to business as normal.

I think this time there's the added problem of shortage of HGV drivers, which supermarkets are already saying is impacting stock provision. www.thegrocer.co.uk/supply-chain/hgv-driver-shortage-industry-and-government-hold-constructive-talks/657480.article

I think the isolation requirements plus lorry drivers will cause a problem. Will fruit and veg pickers be made exempt?
Anyway we are always well stocked but I will be reviewing the cupboards, doing some batch cooking and keeping a close eye on my home home grown veg this week.

I work in a customer facing role & my employer won't insist on customers wearing masks, so I bought ffp2 masks for work. Also refreshed baby essentials and my treats, just in case.

I’m well in the rhythm of having groceries delivered now, and I don’t think that will ever change - it’s so damn convenient as well as let’s me avoid the crowded supermarket.

I think it’s sensible to maintain a healthy stock of shelf stable foods anyway. Will be checking on things and making sure I’m topped up, so fingers crossed we should be OK.

I’m half looking ahead to winter and wondering if there will be another lockdown so am keeping an eye out for that, but again it’s a case of keeping stock levels up rather than needing to do anything from scratch.

We buy hand sanitiser in 5L tubs and decant (for the environment as well as prepping purposes) so will probably make sure we’ve got an extra one on hand.

We’re lucky to both WFH - DP did anyway even before the pandemic, and my work isn’t rushing us back and even then it will be part home, part office so should be easy to avoid going out if we’re concerned about local spikes etc.

One thing I really am slacking on is Health prep - I really need to lose some weight before winter hits as I would be at higher risk of getting it worse in my current state. I was doing well and lost half a stone but I’ve completely fallen off the wagon. Time to clamber back on.

I have a good stock at home, but have been trying to get a few extras (if I can carry them) each time I go, in the hope that I only have to negotiate the first four aisles where the fresh items are. I'll be going at quieter times. If things get really bad, then Iceland usually have slots here, even if the choice is a bit limited. This is purely as we're going away early August and it's the one thing I really want to do this year.
