More relaxed now?

Heard the news about a deal and, with Our have read the details admittedly, feel relieved. Are people still building their stashs up? I'm starting to get a bit fearful that I won't be able to go back to normal and have a spare room that's a spare room rather than something that coild double as a corner shopConfused

Not relaxed but going to use some stocks as they lend themselves better to cold weather for making stews, chilli, shepherds pie, crumbles etc.

After Christmas probably have enough cheese to live off for a month

Will maintain milk delivery, veg box, butchers and keep freezer full.

Would like a few cupboards back though.

DennisTMenace · 28/12/2020 20:00

I do plan to run things down a bit. Like @foolshapeheart, I am finding the amount of preps on the house overwhelming. I will spend the next couple of months using more from the cupboards and not replacing yet. I really don't want to have any food waste and am in danger of not using things in time if I keep building up.

Begonias · 28/12/2020 20:17

I'm going to use some of my stockpile but will replace what I use. I would rather carry on prepping during January and by February I should have a better idea of how things are looking food wise, in terms of what's available, prices, etc.

CommanderBurnham · 28/12/2020 20:42

I'm a natural prepper - comes from growing up poor and bulk buying. I've been reducing my stash recently and feel a bit better and lighter for it.

The next step for me is to put everything in date order so nothing gets wasted.

StealthPolarBear · 28/12/2020 20:45

Yes very relieved. Going to continue to maintain supplies as much as possible but not agonise over what I don't have (Eg loads of frozen meals). At the moment we have run out of washing up liquid which is unheard of!

Scramblinghealingdreaming · 02/01/2021 13:50

Has anybody found certain items in the shops out of stock yet and glad they bought a little extra? I'm just doing an Ocado order for next weeks and seeing quite a few bits OOS.

Whenwillow · 02/01/2021 14:45

Tesco today, only thing I couldn't get was paracetamol. Everything else was fine.

AldiIsla · 02/01/2021 15:10

I'm not shopping at the moment.

Using the pantry to stay away from everyone while the schools are closed. Other than uht milk we're eating as normal. We're a week in and I'm fairly confident we've got everything we need.

Might get a shop delivered mid January.

Dugee · 03/01/2021 14:04

Just had a look at Tesco online. A lot of things are out of stock including chicken.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/01/2021 14:26

Dips (Asda and Morrisons) and some cheaper meat, and fish. (Morrisons)

Some things are not available, such as the boxes of chopped stir fry veg. (Morrisons)

Whenwillow · 03/01/2021 14:27

Just flew into tesco to get some bits for an isolating friend, and everything was as normal.

Whenwillow · 03/01/2021 14:29

Actually that's a lie - I couldn't get the flavour of the thing they wanted. Maybe they are filling shelves with what the do have a lot of, to make it look like all is well.
We'll start seeing more shortages in a few days, I bet.

FusionChefGeoff · 03/01/2021 15:05

Are we expecting gaps due to the pre Xmas lorry chaos or have we passed that?!?

I guess that would mainly be salad leaves and other salad bits that don't keep long?

I was going to food bank all my 'ambient' stuff do you think I'm safe to do that now???

megletthesecond · 03/01/2021 15:11

Bit less worried but I'll relax once we're well into January and were confident the truckers can come and go without a delay.
But I won't run things down until Easter. We could still get covid and don't fancy having food stress on top of that.

Whenwillow · 03/01/2021 15:44

My concern is eu drivers not wanting to come over here if it turns out there'll be delays going home due to paperwork etc

EzzieLove · 05/01/2021 19:29

My concern is UK drivers not being able to work as they have Covid or are self isolating. Very worrying numbers this week and still going up.

Dugee · 15/01/2021 20:30

I'm beginning to think I imagined this but I'm sure I read something stating that we are in another transition period that ends on 31st March and that's when the problems will start.

FoolShapeHeart · 15/01/2021 22:23

From (weary brain) memory, aren't we waiving various import requirements for the first 3 months?

BlackeyedSusan · 16/01/2021 17:54

And another in June apparently but just quoting other posters.

Dugee · 17/01/2021 08:25

@FoolShapeHeart

May be it. Think I read it in one of the news sites but now, despite googling, I can't see it.

FoolShapeHeart · 17/01/2021 10:41

here is a summary; it's from June but I think it's correct.

MarshmallowManiac · 18/01/2021 12:00

Thanks FoolShapeHeart thought that was what would happen. While the general public think 'Oh that went smoothly' it is all yet to come. Not getting rid of my stash for a while yet.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/01/2021 18:07

There seems to be a reduction in the number of lorries coming here so probably storing up future difficulties.
