How many weeks of stock do you think is necessary?

How many weeks (or months .....) of food and other items do you think we need to put by in preparation for a deal Brexit in 2021?

I'm still getting tomatoes and raspberries and lettuce etc outside in raised beds and pots, because of this we found some plumbing pipe, and old wood in the attic, and bought some polytunnel plastic and have now built a polytunnel over the raised bed to see if we can keep them growing.

Potatoes we grow from cut bits that have sprouted a bit, we use the rest of the potato for eating! Peppers I plant the seeds out any we get, celery can be grown from the bottom cut off part of celery, really easily. Lettuce is easy to grow, herbs, spinach is great as the more you cut off the more it grows.

Never grown spring onions Blackeyed must try them. Love spring onions in a sandwich with cheese. Grew a few tomatoes out of my aunties's chest in the garden this year, to my surprise they took and tasted lovely. I have some green ones that are still outside which I have been taken in and put on my windowsill. Can I leave them outside for much longer, and are there any veg that I can plant now? Thanks so much.

Iv the touch of death with plants so I'm making sure have plenty tinned, frozen, and dried fruit/veg, I have chest freezer arriving nx week as the back order was madness do any of you use boxs/bags to keep things in sections? Must remember to buy more marmite as hubby decided he suddenly likes

I use bags for life in the freezer to section: ice creams/lollies, chips n breaded stuff, veg, fish, meat then have a box at the bottom for cheese & butter. The baskets at the top are super handy for smaller things and pizza bases jammed around the outside.

We only got ours in the summer and I do not know how we managed before

It is amazing how quickly on gets used to new stuff. Glad it is useful.

I still have a bit of space in mine, used it though to store pizzas that would not fit in the fridge. Should have taken them out of the packaging as recommended. Could cut the cooking instructions off the pack and pop in there too.

My chest freezer arrived a few days ago (after a 3 week wait) and I finally got a delivery slot for today and I was so excited to see how much space was still left!
I only had a undercounter freezer and I have managed to take loads out of it so I can easily open and close the draws now. 😲 And I managed to clear enough space so I could freeze things flat!
I definitely need to find an organisation method for the chest freezer though! I know there is another thread on here somewhere with suggestions.

@sexesam I got one off Facebook while bidding on one on eBay. I know have two chest freezers Hmm. Am going out to fill it tomorrow.... as u just never know.

I work for a critical company and we estimate delays of up to four days at the border, most elements have been agreed by the eu and the Uk and customs requirements articulated.,

So aim for a week factually worst case.

Do those 4 days take into account millions of panicking people? The mere word pandemic caused havoc for a month and that was without lorries being held at ports longer than usual.

Like genuinely asking. I would love the picture in my head not to play out like the panic buying prediction did.

@Paranoidmarvin rookie error. Should have let eBay play out before confirming fb. Although sods law dictates you would have then had nothing! Have fun filling them up!

@Bluntness100 thank you for sharing, I do agree with @gamerchick that the situation in the shop will not reflect that for a while cos panic buying and media exacerbation.

I have loads of dd's soya milk but still hardly any weeks worth of it. Got more on order.

Very worried for those who have lost jobs or are on reduced hours again. I don’t earn a large amount of money but we are lucky enough that we are all still working and being paid as normal. (By we I mean myself, partner and son, plus my daughter partner, although she is a student with no income). I am putting together my own preps plus an emergency food box for my daughter as she is rubbish at prepping. I am also adding items each week to our local food bank collection. Not a lot but I hope that every little bit will make a difference.

the more you have in, the less you will need to spend later, and the more that will be available for those that can't afford it now.

Looks fucking grim though. I also worry about what the food bank will do. If prices go up, fewer people will donate, and fewer items will be donated for the amountpeople have to spend on donations. Also more people will be pushed into the not managing zone and more people will need to call on the food bank for support. God knows what we are going to do.

Oh God I worry about it all the time, don't say it much as most people in RL are in the 'aww we'll be alright' or 'this is the uk' category and don't want to hear anything. Also think I will do a box for my daughter as she always laughs at my stocks and says I will not need them hope she is right

Can't fucking abide the refusing to get organised lot. Mainly just ex. Sort your fecking freezer out man.

As he has to feed the kids regularly, I am making sure he is all sorted. But I have done at the least three shops now since it was delivered and he still hasn't sorted out his fridge and freezer.

Me neither Blackeyed been telling everyone in my house for a good old while, but nobody seems to listen. I really don't know what they would do if on the quiet we were not prepping for them. Hopefully we are all wrong and Boris will pull off an amazing trade deal splutters laughing into hankie and there will be no delays.

Don't splutter too much, you'll have a swab so far up your nose it will feel like it is coming out of the top of your head before you can say European Union...
