Government causing shortages

Looking back, the shortages of some things we saw running out of or low down were all the ones in the government packages for the vulnerable- loo roll, pasta, tomatoes, rice, uht milk. Surely it was them commandeering supplies that caused the problems rather than people panic buying - that came after

😄, but then the people that got those things didn't need to buy those things, so it would cancel out.

Suppose so Smile. Looks like the same things will be short again rhen

I don’t think this was the case as I used a large commercial company during the early days of lockdown for my shopping and they also provided and delivered boxes to the shielding. I used them as I could guarantee getting everything on my shopping list including flour, loo rolls and large packs of pasta and rice. They usually deliver to cafes, schools and restaurants so had plenty of stock.

No, those are basics so they would have been bought anyway by those shielding if nobody had sent them a box. We could always get most things except flour and yeast, which was an issue with bags not product, it was just an issue of shelves getting filled up in time. Things that genuinely ran out were specialist items where the production lines were quickly simplified, so not as many types of mayo / sauce / flavoured whatever.

Tbh I think the recent announcement of a second wave yesterday will prompt another 'wave' of panic buying....

MRex · 29/07/2020 13:20

That's ok shops need the money.
