Prepping for (minor) emergencies

What tools/products do you always have in the house? I'm thinking light bulbs, fuses, screwdrivers... from next week on, dp will be working away from home again so I want to be prepared for things that might go wrong in the evenings/nights -if DC are in bed it wont be easy to pop out to the shops for whatever I need.

Thanks, all going onto my list for the weekend, must get batteries too.

Do you know how to reset the boiler? Where the stop tap is? How to flip a breaker on the fuse box?

I have needed all of these but to be fair DH didn't know in case anyone thinks I am being sexist, it's just that these things always seem to happen when you are on your own with no one to mind the kids or hold the torch while you fiddle about in the dark

Blankets and hot water bottles for if the boiler goes wrong and is not fixable.

Antbait and fly spray. Just been chasing a 3 fly round the kitchen. Mouse traps.

Hmmm, I did have to turn off the water last year with a smallish emergency but definitely need to go over it to make sure I know how to do it quickly if needed. The fuse box I am ok with.

I have blankets but will get some hot water bottles.

@BlackeyedSusan those b***d flys would drive you to go insane! I am WFH at the minute and had some that would repeatedly land on my computer screen, it was like they were torturing me. I asked dp to get a fly swatter and he brought home these butterfly stickers for the windows aswell which actually encourage the flies to stay away somehow . They do work though! I will get a couple of mouse traps for just incase.

Duck tape - fixes all sorts!

A spare (clean) basin to throw things into, catch leaks, be a barf bucket etc as needed.

Rags to mop up spills, wipe away drips etc - just cut old T-shirt’s that are no longer wearable into strips.

Looking around the kitchen: first aid and sewing kits, basic DIY such as sandpaper, paint brushes, screws and nails in a small tool kit with screwdriver, hammer, pliers, batteries of various sizes, spare kitchen scissors and ordinary scissors, lighters for candles, cable ties, undercoat, white emulsion and gloss, wood filler (can you tell we have an old house...), masking and duct tape, multitool.

Basic first aid kit and a solar powered phone charger would good to add.

I have a fire blanket in the kitchen. Head torch? Antihistamine cream. Imodium. Cold packs. Araldite. Wheat bag. Extra flea/worm treatment if you have pets.

Thinking of the useful stuff I have under the stairs!

Rechargeable Battery pack for phones or anything else usb chargeable. I carry mine in my bag if I'm out for the day just in case too. You know a power cut will happen when you have low battery!

Under a radiator tray: shallow drawer from fridge drawer worked for me.

Rags and shallow tray to empty washing machine into.

Some good suggestions so far.

I always like to make sure I have some eye wash in my first aid as something in your eye wants taking care of straight away and it doesn't always seem to come in a general first aid kit.
