Hi all, starting this thread to continue from preppers thread 16. Because we are amidst a pandemic now, I have changed the title to prepping amidst pandemic than “for pandemic”. I hope all of you keep well amidst this and get all the help, support and hope needed to cope during this challenging times. Feel free to add your thoughts, preps and ideas here.

Oh sorry to hear you didn't get your birthday wish @Begonias hope you get yourself a freezer.

Today I have planted spring bulbs, will be more grateful than ever to see them come up next year. Now I need to see what I can sow in the greenhouse over winter, thinking lettuce, parsley and coriander. Ooh garlic has gone in too.

Happy Birthday @Begonias. I have had a helluva job finding a big chest freezer recently and the one I originally ordered was cancelled due to stock issues. Hoping that the alternative one I ordered arrives tomorrow without any issues. This will be my 3rd freezer, fridge freezer and two smaller freezers. I would buy the biggest one which you can afford and which will fit into the space you have. I'm glad that you got a nice alternative to your freezer though !

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes x

I've ordered a freezer for the utility room arriving in a fortnight. I'm looking forward to stocking up frozen food. I've started stashing toiletries in plastic boxes (from Poundland) under the kids beds. Managed to get an awful lot of things stored this way.
I was going to stock up on kitchen towels but instead went and purchased lots of microfibre cloths. I thought I will get more use out of them and won't need as much storage space.
I need to check on batteries and torches next. All medication boxes and first aid boxes are fully stocked thanks to my fear of noravirus from recent years, the whole house was wiped down with it and there was no painkiller available.
Hope everyone is coping ok x

Hoping freezers arrive safely.

Under bed gives loads of space, good for bags of pasta too.

I use dishcloths for wiping up. Got loads of them as I buy myself a new pack to take on holiday every year. They wash in the washing machine or scold with boiling water in the washing up bowl. Need kitchen roll for some things, such as wiping up fat from pans etc.

Hi everyone!

I’ve loved catching up on the thread. I’m in Wales so in national lockdown for two weeks now and that I closes supermarkets roping off non essentials, so it will be interesting to see how we fare!

Welcome back Aloha!

So are you going to go to the shop for essentials during your lockdown and keep up prepping or live off preps so you can avoid shops altogether?

I’m probably going to avoid shops, but I get my milk delivered and my fruit and veg as well. I had a discount on two Hello Fresh boxes, so I set those up but shopped as normal, given that I won’t use my petrol budget for a fortnight! All our local restaurants seem to have adapted to takeaway/delivery too, so we will partake in one or two, so we should be ok without dipping in to the stocks too much.

DP can still go out to work and DS is in primary so he goes back to school after the first week. I can work from home but there won’t be much to do as I work in tourism and all our guests’ holidays have been cancelled.

I support it, but it’ll be interesting to see how we get on with the bad weather this time round.
