In case of fire?

Just drawn up our fire plan. It doesn't seem terribly comprehensive, I thought it would reassure me (like all my other preps and plans have in the past). Instead I'm realising we are basically at the mercy of the fire service as we only have one way out. I don't like blocks of flats since Grenfell but not in a position to move. Anything I could do to be better fire safety wise? Thanks

What floor do you live on?

AnotherMurkyDay · 01/03/2020 00:01

Fourth floor

It just strikes me that no matter how prepared I am in other areas actually it's much more likely that we will have a fire in the building than any of the other things I HAVE prepped for. I may be overthinking things though

Do you have a fire blanket and extinguisher? It won't help on the scale of Grenfel but if you have a fire at home it should protect you and by extension your building. I would then see if some sort of community project or awareness program could be implemented for the block.

We used to live in. Highrise in the middle east DH and I had the agreement that in the event of the fire alarms going off in building we left always by emergency escape no matter what others say.

Only a fire blanket. No fire escape just the main stairs which is what freaks me out. I was thinking about an extinguisher but not sure which one or if I was being OTT.

What about one of these? It's 25 foot so would take you to the 1st floor, and in a real emergency I'd rather jump from 1st floor than wait on the 4th. www.firesafetystore.co.uk/escape-equipment/fire-escape-ladders/25-foot-fire-escape-ladder-en/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA1-3yBRCmARIsAN7B4H3VKZUJ6lyJXuZFHRRc1SMfCIwRXa8QQsC7iNx0HWymSQ795DMCHckaAgLcEALw_wcB

Not sure if that would work or not @TheBoots but it has made me think of some things that might. I think I will have a proper look f

Sorry posted too soon.

I'll have a proper look from outside and work out what our best alternatives could be. I think we'd probably end up going through neighbours flats as there exit is clearer.
