Hand gel

Which hand gels sold in the uk have the 60% alcohol content recommended as effective against Covid-19? I'm struggling to find the information I need and don't want to buy one that is ineffective.

My local chemists and supermarkets have sold out of all hand sanitizers.

It is for DH who is still commuting into London. He is hand washing as much as possible but wants something to use on the train etc.

If you check the ingredients. I could carex in Asda today and it says 70g ethanol per 100g so I assumed that meant 70% and it was ok.

M+S sell one in the food hall that has 60% and I got one from Aldi yesterday (it was white, rather than clear gel) that was 70%. Aldi had loads in stock.

@KisforKoala where did the op ask about the effectiveness of soap and water compared to hand gel?

Superdrugs own brand is 62% ethanol.

I have a couple at home that are 57 percent. I wonder exactly how useless they are in comparison with 60 percent or over ones...no idea.

My aldi, savers and sainsburys are out of stock of them all

Their range has 62% alcohol which is fine (just needs to be above 60%)

Primark, 75%. At the tills.

I'm too rural for Primark so had to get a delivery online

There's loads in my local Tesco express, appreciate that's not relevant if you are rural.

I got the Carex one at Boots in Stansted Airport yesterday. They had lots so maybe other branches of Boots do too.

Thanks for this thread. I'd been told the Carex was no good because it's only antibacterial not antiviral 🙄. Didn't know about the 60% alcohol bit. Thanks 😊

Everywhere I looked today (out of interest, not because I was going to buy) was out of stock - Boots, Superdrug, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and M&S.
