Living rurally and having lost water/power etc in the flooding we are looking to increase backups. As aware also with possible Coronavirus their might be less people to keep resources going and slower response times.

Any phone bank/power bank type charges you’d recommend and USB lighting or small fan heaters you can power from them? Cooking wise we have the gas BBQ so that’s ok. Thinking about a generator to power the freezer, do you need adapters or can you plug anything with a 3-pin straight in? I’m wary about storing petrol etc safely, so any advice welcome.

Or solar power power banks? Or Solar/wind up lamps?

Or anything other recommendations?

For generater fuel i would recomend going with LPG rather than petrol and diesel. Its safer to store and does not degrade.

Been a few years since i had one (grew up on a border hill farm) as i remember ours had an inverter built into it, but for freezers and other big stuff its the start up load not the running load thats important, often fridges and freezers use a lot more power to start than to run.

I have one of those car jump start packs, keeps all our phones etc charged for about 10 days from a full charge. Think we paid about £65 for it.

Kids have one of those squeez powered torches (saves batteries) and we also have LED lanterns and torches as well.

Cooking i would recomend a camping gas stove over the BBQ, safer for indoor use

As for keeping warm, we relie on a jumper or if not moving around throws and quilts
