Is it wise to keep money offshore in case situation deteriorates?

Am trying to prep for all eventualities not just food crisis. If we got an ultra right wing govt I think we would try to leave the country. Therefore is it wise to keep some money offshore in case there are difficulties accessing money (most our money is our capital in our house anyway). Is anyone doing this? And how do you do it?

I'm not doing it because it feels toocomplicated for me. I would rather have tradeable goods with me.
Interested to see what others think.
I have a very small amount of cash at home in pounds and Euros - but that is only because we are going on holiday to Eurozone country shortly (not quite in the same spirit Grin). I have worst case scenario plans for leaving the country but they wouldn't be ones I would want to activate.

If you had a rsight wing government your money would be easier to access. Do you mean facist or something? What exactly is it you are worried about?

Ultimately off shore assets are very easy to trace and would not necessarily help you unless you have dual citizenship or something. I’m a portable property kinda gal when it comes to easy access (I have a box or unregistered and untraceable-not insured, not tax declared, no one knows they in the country-antiques). But if you were worried about an economic crash (is this what you mean?) then you should hold nuetral assets like shares in international countries, portable property, foreign currencies etc and ditch your house.

I mean like a 1930s Nazi situation where assets of minorities were frozen. I can foresee a time where we might want to flee a country we are unwelcome in and make a new life but are unable to sell our house.

Probably a better idea is buy gold, silver, and diamonds. Harder to trace and will keep there value
