Is anyone experimenting with 'Stockpile' meals?

As the title says really Grin

As it's half term next week I thought I'd try some bits with the kids. I've bought a bread mix from Aldi & a pizza base mix from Tesco so will try that with frozen (defrosted) mozzerella.

We had the potatoes in the photo over the weekend & they were very successful & will be taking them camping in summer! Have also now bought 8 boxes to save!

I have tried the children on tinned carrots in pasta. worked ok.

Lentil Bolognese works well and is generally accepted by children as red lentils melt if you cook them for long enough. Very farty though

My dc will eat tinned carrots with a quick sausage & mash type tea so that's a bonus.

I use red lentils in veggie stew & dumplings & curry. They claim to not like stew but eat it all. Curry is a bit hit & miss but I've bought coconut milk which normally helps. I wonder what else I could put dumplings on as they love them.

I've mostly stuck by the 'only buy what you normally eat' rule but some things are not so easy to store so it's got me thinking about alternatives.

I just experimented with spam!

(it's actually pretty good fried up in egg fried rice)

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/02/2019 22:00

I could eat whole tins of Spam in one go. Several tins at a time in fact.

I’ve given them the Iceland frozen mashed potato—as a treat—. Ds2
preferred it to the real thing, dh moaned. Nothing new there then! Going onto smash this week

My dd keeps munching away at the fruit I dehydrated. My adventures in dehydrating food have caused much amusement to many mumsnetters. Grin

I made a dahl. The kids liked it but they could have powered a wind turbine with their farts the next day. I had no idea cute little 1 and 3 years could fart so loud. A bit embarrassing in a cafe.

Doing a lot more veggie/lentil-based slop type meals. Add enough spices and they're more than happy to dunk homemade bread into it. A definite win and it's saving £££ off the weekly shopping bill.
