I personally don't think so but others seem to think we don't need to stockpile now as lorries are due to be waived through and submit declarations remotely and pay within a month.

I will continue to build our family's supplies. It's price hikes that concern me along with potential shortages.

I think some of the pressure is off. I still think there will be big price increases but there's only so much you can prep for that anyway since most people don't have unlimited storage space.

I shall be keeping the stockpile I have already amassed. I shall continue to add to it until we have a clear picture of what is due to happen but I am now switching my focus to "nice to have" items which could become pricey.

I think it's good news from an emergency management point of view and demonstrates how worried they are. But it is only a short term solution and fraught with negatives (take back control of our borders?).
Hopefully it will give a bit of breathing space . But it will be kept under review and the government will want to keep control of the situation to avoid it getting out of hand.

It's also a pointless measure unless the French & Dutch, etc. do the same thing on their side. Unless we are sending out empty trucks.

Checks are conducted going in both directions. If, for instance, the French do checks going in either or both directions, as they are completely entitled to, it will cause delays. Even if the checks were only on lorries going UK - France, the backlog of lorries in Kent would mean that they weren't available to bring more supplies into the UK because they're sat about queuing...

I'm still aiming to keep a months supply on hand until the summer as I trust no politician right now and just don't want to be scrabbling around for basics in march when it's just as easy to order 1.5 of everything for the next 2 or 3 online orders. Lived in a country where things dried up very suddenly and it's a bit stressful so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Having read a bit more around this last night my brief reassurance about short term relief has been more than offset by my concern about medium term issues.

Sorry for the hijack but do we know what they're doing about flights? I've been putting off booking flights to see family in Spain and France.

Flight booked to Crete end of May. It'll either go or it won't. Showing an uncharacteristic amount of faith that they want tourism to operate.

I'm not convinced of anything until they sort out of it's the WA or no deal. Surely everything rests on that. I'm enjoying prepping as like knowing I have stores of food and toiletries for my family in case of anything untoward but I'm extremely anxious about no deal and how it will affect us. I'm certain my benefits won't increase to match the price hike on food, goods and services. I organised a fixed price tariff on my energy supply yesterday. Fixed for 2 years. That's reassurance for me too.

I've literally just had a back up oil delivery on the basis that prices are predicted to rise. Tank is now full which is reassuring

The Dutch have been trying to organise fastracking trucks for months. They export a LOT of perishables (fruit, veg, flowers) to the UK and their economy will be hit by delays. There are radio ads constantly reminding people to make sure that businesses are Brexit-proofed.

we've just booked flights from NL to France end of April. DD and me on NL passport, DH on British passport. I'm not worried. Airlines going to fly without passengers? Think not. It'll all blow over.

I want to fix my energy tariff too but DH said there would be clauses in the ts&cs that mean they can change the tariff for things like brexit so it wasn't worth it.
Is this right?

Nothing was mentioned when I signed up. Will scrutinise the bumf when it arrives.
