Can anybody give advice on what brands are best to use? I have just ordered my first bread machine and am very excited.
Also, should I get some airtight containers for the flour? I usually just leave the opened bag in the cupboard but I read briefly about small bugs in the flour Confused

If you freeze the flour for 72 hours after purchasing you should kill any weevils but we've never had any issues with them.

I decant my flour into an airtight container once I've opened it but we get through it fairly quickly anyway.

Can’t comment on brands but try to find one where the paddle doesn’t stay stuck in the bread and tear it up.

We've replaced our knackered, old bread maker specifically for Brexit prep. Flour is always kept in an airtight container.

If you've already bought the bread maker, what are you looking for brands of? Flour?

Flour is flour, well there's wholemeal, spelt etc but it's just flour

Thanks all. I didn’t know if I could use the supermarket own brand flours (basics range) as that’s what I normally buy for small baking. I want to get a good amount in the cupboards. I also need to get some airtight containers - I don’t normally bother.
I’ve ordered a Panasonic model. It had really good reviews and hoping to switch long term from buying shop bread to making my own.

We just buy Aldi's white bread flour. Makes a good loaf and inexpensive.

Top tip (well, not top but it works for me Grin). I spray the paddle & spindle with butter fry light. The paddle just slips right out after baking.

Has anyone tried making bread in a slow cooker?

I'm not a great baker, I don't have a bread maker either. But I do have a slow cooker.

I’ve been making all my own bread for 25 years. I’ve never had a bread maker. You get wonderful wrist and hand strengthening from kneading and it only takes about 15 minutes. I blend my flour mix: 50:50 strong white and wholemeal with some seeds etc in. Be prepared for a few failures before you get the knack, as I did.
