Thought it might be handy to have a thread to add to whenever good prepping stuff is on offer, please add anything you find going cheap that might be handy for stocking up.

East End tins are four for £1 at Tesco until 12/3/19 - tinned tomatoes plus various types of beans. Reasonable quality in my experience.

Also Morrisons 2 for £2 100ml sensitive toothpaste - my teeth really hurt if I don't use the "sensitive" stuff Sad.

PLEASE don't use this thread to debate prepping, there are so many other threads already!

Any other good offers I need to know about?

Sainsburys have 50p off Idahoan instant mash making it £1 per pack (No idea if any good!). Not sure when offer runs out.

Tesco have 79p off Nido full fat milk power making it £3 per 400g tin. Offer finishes 27/11/18.

bellinisurge · 22/11/2018 10:54

Excellent tips. Excellent thread.
Utterly shameless place marking - will add as I spot something.
Have the potato and the milk already. Good to see them on offer.

For (nice) storage of stuff, for me it's my dehydrated stuff, no room in cupboards but looks ok on a shelf - found these yesterday at hobbycraft - just 36p per jar reduced from £1 each ... https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/fresh-embossed-clear-glass-jar-490ml-6-pack/633697-1000?glCountry=GB&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhpurgvn3gIVzrztCh0gDwWPEAQYAyABEgLDzzDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The sainsburys mash offer isn't showing on line so might be store specific. Worth grabbing since the prices have been going up on this.

princes tinned meats in sauce eg chicken in white sauce, chicken casserole, beef stew etc are 2 for 2.50 in morrisons
Fray bentos pies are £1 in B&M

user187656748 · 22/11/2018 12:18

Corned beef also £1.99 at B&M which is a decent price.

(Can you see I've been trying to up the protein content of my store cupboard!)

Snugglepumpkin · 22/11/2018 19:23

1kg leg of pork joint £2.50 in Tesco until 27th, limit 2 per customer if ordered online

catsofa · 22/11/2018 22:32

Thanks everyone, I'll look here each week before I finalise my online grocery shop, and chuck in a couple of extra things for the apocalypse.

OP posts:
catsofa · 22/11/2018 22:33

Snugglepumpkin wouldn't that need to be refridgerated?

OP posts:
catsofa · 22/11/2018 22:40

user187656748 my protein is almost all beans, there's hardly any tinned meat I like at all. I'm stocking chicken and fish paste though which would be particularly helpful in case of no power to cook.

Morrisons Prince's salmon paste 3 for £1.50 til 1/1/19, and some Heinz soups are 6 for £4 til 9/12/18.

My family prefer the Sainsburys own brand of instant mash. It has a good flavour and is much cheaper than Smash etc.

Snugglepumpkin · 23/11/2018 00:24

@catsofa I pressure canned mine after dicing it up & I know I'm not the only one on this board with a pressure canner, but you could also freeze it.

I’ve posted a few bargain things before on this prepping bargain buys thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/preppers/3360735-Prepping-Bargain-Buys

bellinisurge · 23/11/2018 10:52

Cheers @ElyElyOy

AdoraBell · 25/11/2018 16:39

I second the Sainsbury’s instant mash, we add butter to it but you could pep it up with spices/herbs/mustard etc.

AwdBovril · 27/11/2018 22:50

For anyone who has a dehydrator - Morrisons have large pineapples at £1 each at the moment. They probably need a few days on a sunny windowsill to ripen up a bit, but I've just done a batch today - 1 pineapple almost filled my dehydrator - & it's definitely the biggest success to date. I'm going to have to start a 2nd jar to store them in... I do mine at about 50-55°C for approximately 12-18 hours. Sliced about 5mm thick.

If anyone has a B&M nearby, they have packs of tuna at a good price, 6 x 102g drained weight (I think) for £5.

bellinisurge · 28/11/2018 06:21

Oooo nice. Good tip. Thanks.

I normally keep an eye open for those packs of mixed melon/pineapple/mango that have just been put on half price but still look and taste fresh. I dehydrate those immediately and all three fruits taste yum dehydrated.

AwdBovril · 29/11/2018 22:12

Ooh I'd not thought of mango, it's usually quite expensive. But, sometimes it's possible to get the boxes of Pakistani mangoes that are much cheaper, and riper. I think they are usually available in late spring, so I'll keep an eye open - if things are still ok by then. Hopefully it will be & we'll all just have very well stocked cupboards!

Primarystress · 30/11/2018 23:34

Carnation milk on offer in Tesco atm...

AwdBovril · 07/12/2018 16:21

Morrisons currently have these pasta sauce at £1 per jar. They also have small jars of the vegan pesto, too, & the fiery chilli tomato pasta sauce. I've used the vegan pesto for nearly 20 years & IME it lasts way longer than a fortnight once opened, as long as you're careful to use a clean spoon each time & keep it in the fridge. Obviously this is just my experience...

bellinisurge · 07/12/2018 16:36

Great spot.

DaedricLordSlayer · 10/12/2018 20:41

for the cheese lovers, Sainsburys have little 100g waxed cheeses for quid each.

AdoraBell · 10/12/2018 22:24

Ooh, I’m going to Sainsbo’s tomorrow. I’ll look out for the cheese, thank you.

MotherWol · 12/12/2018 11:10

Post Christmas sales should hopefully be a good time to stock up on some non-perishable seasonal items. Thinking boxes of biscuits/crackers for cheese/nuts/waxed cheeses. Also January tends to be a good time for deep discounting on alcohol as sales are down (dry January) so if you need to replenish the drinks cabinet...

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 11:16

Good point @MotherWol

ElyElyOy · 14/12/2018 11:09

Tinned tomatoes, 25p each in Home Bargains.
