Triangia or Kelly Kettle

Hi folks,

Prepper newbie here - wondering whether people would recommend a Triangia or a Kelly Kettle, please? For primary use as backup at home - camping is a rarity for us.
I like the idea of a Kelly as not thrilled about storing gas. But then the Kelly looks a bit of a faff.. Thanks for any advice!

I am not a prepper but use a Kelly kettle for camping and it's great as it only needs a small amount of any combustible fuel. A Trangia would eventually be useless if you ran out of meths but is better for cooking.

Kelly Kettle works with twigs etc...., Trangia requires meths.

Trangia is much cheaper to buy but far more expensive to run.
Kelly Kettle is more expensive to buy but can be free to run.

If I had to pick one, I'd pick the Kelly Kettle every time.

We’ve got a biolite- use it all the time, most recently yesterday for hot dogs and s’mores in the garden 😃

Ooh I haven't heard of that one - thanks!

I have a Kelly kettle and have used it in the garden for boiling water and also cooking a fried egg and rasher, used just a handful of little twigs. Also made maple syrup taffy in the snow last spring!!

I have a single ring camping gas stove - the ones in little suitcases with aerosol cans of gas rather than a trangia. I've managed dinner for 2 on that with a little thought, and could manage 3 if need be.

I keep both of those at home, while the rest of my camping gear is in a storage unit - in case of bad weather/power outtages etc. as well as for when we go camping.

For small, localized emergencies, the trangia is probably an easier to use option.

But for longer term, SHTF situations, the Kelly kettle works with very small amounts of the kind of stuff that grows everywhere (even in city centres you will get twigs and sticks).

I saw this on Active Threads and thought it was a baby name thread Grin
