What do you need if you're in a flood zone?

My house is on a hill in a hilly area that wouldn't flood until all of the South East was under water but clearly that's not the case for thousands of people, inlcuding my elderly grandma.

If you live in a flood zone, what do you need to have on hand? Especially if you might need to spend the night in an emergency shelter.

My first ideas

If you're staying at home:
Food that doesn't need fridge or freezer or heating up (unless you have a way of heating during a power cut)
Water
Warmth
Light (power cut) - candles/matches and/or windup torches/lanterns
Your medicines
Windup radio
Cash, in case you need to buy something but the card machines aren't working
First aid kit

I think some people mentioned a corded landline telephone being useful this time as mobiles weren't working.

If you're leaving:
A small, easy to carry bag
Raincoat/poncho
Warm clothes
Photos of family (in case you get separated)
Toiletries + nappies etc.
Snacks & water bottle
Mini first aid kit
Survival blanket
Cash
Windup radio/torch (you don't know if where you're going won't also have a power cut later)
Your medicines
A sling for young children
Formula/bottles etc.

Basically I'd sit down and work out what I generally use during 48 hours and try to plan for that.

If you want to do proper hardcore prepping for a flood, you can get flood barriers fitted to your doors, and get your downstairs tiled (walls too) and fitted with swimming pool tiled drains, get your upstairs separately wired so you don't lose power, and have everything either easy to move upstairs or on waterproof stilts...

What sort of house does she have, Thomas? ( eg two storey or bungalow, old/new, cellar storage or loft storage, that sort of thing.)
