I started reading these threads just after you took over the Ebola topic.

I was a bit sceptical at first but thought it couldn't do any harm to be a little prepared. I began stocking up on candles, tins and bottled water and also bought a wind up radio and wind up torch.

I live in Lancaster and yesterday the river flooded. We have no electricity and no running water. Our house isn't flooded because we're on a hill but we can't get anywhere because all the streets around us are flooded.

Prepping has meant we don't need to panic. We can sit back and relax knowing we have the essentials to keep us giing until the water subsidies.

I'm glad you're ok and have supplies in.

I have friends up in Lancaster and it looks awful. They are on the marsh and they weren't so lucky Sad.

It makes me even more determined to get our emergency supplies in order when you see how quickly things can go wrong.

That's fantastic. (That the prepper topic helped)

Awful for those poor people with flooded houses, just been watching it on the news Sad. Thankfully we aren't in an area that floods, but we really didn't give it much consideration at all when we bought our house.

I'm so glad we were able to help in some small way. It was the tidal surge flooding here and Norfolk 2 years ago that really got me going - we were fine, but it confirmed to me that I wasn't being stupid.

Stay safe, and may all affected get through this safely too.

It's to have helped Wink

Nice

gamerchick · 06/12/2015 15:32

The floods are really awful, stay safe. Are your neighbours ok?

Speederman · 06/12/2015 16:06

Another good tip is to keep some cash in the house. My relatives in Lancaster say most shops are shut but the one that is open is only accepting cash (no electricity = no card machines)

That's great to know, it's being sensible just incase.

I hope everyone is ok. & the community are all helping out. Flowers

Best of luck to you and to all the other households affected by the floods/ dreadful weather.

Wetoopere · 07/12/2015 07:15

Well done on acting on getting supplies in; I'm sorry you're having to use them :( I hope everything is back up and running quickly.

I'm glad having the board helped!

I used to live just over the boarder in North Yorkshire, so I know all too well how easily cut off everywhere can be in those parts.

Are you ok for heating and food?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 22/12/2015 00:43

Great, thank goodness you had supplies in!
