Water storage ponderings

Am seriously considering getting a couple of bowsers to store water. Could anyone tell me if these are a) suitable, and if so b) how long I could store water in them, and if I'd have to add anything to the water to keep it sweet?

I got 2 ex military ones of ebay

They Store 680 litres each and with the frame were £140 each although the same seller has them at £95 without the frame

If you just search ebay for 680 bowser they pop up in the results which are only a handful of listings long

I did think about the Ibc's that you are looking at but if you do go with them you need to make sure you get one that is food grade plastic and hasn't ever had chemicals in it

Also an ibc would need to be kept out of sunlight as the uv Rays would promote algae growth hence why the ex military bowsers are black and most water authority ones are blue as they both block the suns rays from turning the water green

Nothing would need adding to the water although it would as you say go flat after a while but would still be safe if the bowser was clean and out of sunlight

I think it was the UK preppers forum I read on about water storage and someone there just recommended the above along with changing the water once a year just to be sure

My concerns would be that they need to be suitable for long term potable water storage.

These look fine for storing water for washing, toilet flushing but not drinking.

Food grade water storage tanks used in food factories would be better or heavy duty plastic bags that sit inside a collapsible frame that are easy to store and typically used in disaster relief scenarios or military applications will be even better.

They are food grade, but yes it was the colour that was concerning me. I'll have a look at the ex army ones, thank you.

Storage would be in the garage. Which hasn't even been started yet.
