What do you do about water?

We have a well in the garden but haven't uncapped it yet, so until then am wondering about how to use the water from our butts (snigger) and in the event of bad water from taps etc. I have seen a fab water filter which apparently can filter anything, would you go for a standalone object like that or filtration tablets? Or something else? We are a family of 4.

We just boiled our when our water supply was contaminated.

Boil it on the log burner but we do have tablets if we have to bug out

I'm rural and know if 6 live mountain springs within ten minutes walk. At least two if which I'm 100% sure no one alive and fit will know about ( I'm one of the few of my generation to have taken advantage of my surroundings as a child- the paths are now overgrown and no longer used - only the old people can compete for the water if they remember where the springs are)
