well I think the preppers would like their own topic but because mnhq haven't given them one they've taken over this one instead

BrendaandEddie · 29/10/2015 12:46

oh please let them have it as its fricking weird boring.

Mind you the day ANYONE sticks to the topic and doesnt just shove everything in AIBU

Dunno, but I'm mighty peeved as when I take them over Tech nukes them whilst I'm still using them and THEN I get scolded when Mumsnet breaks.

Clearly blatant favouritism is at hand here.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/10/2015 13:41

It is favoritism. MNHQ want our stockpiles of gin when the SHTF.

winchester1 · 29/10/2015 22:30

Please feel free to join the thread in site stuff and ask them to just give us a bloody area so those of you not interested can hide us!

SwedishEdith · 29/10/2015 22:39

What the hell are preppers though?

Wolfiefan · 29/10/2015 22:42

They are preparing for the zombie apocalypse I think.
In reality it's the cats we have to watch. They are going to take over the world. Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 22:48

well I thought the following;

  1. It is weird that MN has an Ebola Topic
  2. It is even weirder that preppers have taken it over.

I now know a lot more about peppers than I did this time last week.

Also I have lots of food in the freezer but prob not enough bottled water....

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 22:48

preppers

Wolfiefan · 29/10/2015 22:49

I have gin. I will be fine. Or at least I won't care either way!

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 22:53

actually reading some of the other threads its a bit like extreme camping tbh

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 22:54

wolfie just like camping [hgrin]

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 22:55

oops Halloween Grin

Mamagin · 29/10/2015 22:57

No point in having food in the freezer unless you have your own power supply. Much better to preserve in alcohol.

Mamagin · 29/10/2015 23:00

I have only seen this as it was on active. Are there chicken pox and measles topics as well? Or one for if you have a slight sniffle? Too many categories. It's daft!

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 23:04

best put those fish fingers in the vodka then, just in case......

vvviola · 29/10/2015 23:06

Is it the food I need to preserve in alcohol? Or can I just pickle myself....?

winchester1 · 29/10/2015 23:08

Depends where you live - our freezer is in the garage and would hold fine for 4-6 months of the yr as its minus degress most of the time.

Wolfiefan · 29/10/2015 23:09

You know I said about the cats. DH went to bed without feeding them. One held his head in between her front paws and gnawed on his head.
I've seen the start of the apocalypse.
Goodbye MN. We've had some laughs!

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 23:10

to be on the safe side vv I would pickle yourself

vvviola · 29/10/2015 23:12

Excellent Funny.

I think I'll get started now. Nothing like being prepared I was a great Boy Scout, me Wine

Unacceptable · 29/10/2015 23:17

Why is there an Ebola topic?
Why?
A preppers topic seems to make much more sense anyway

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/10/2015 23:18

Wolfie provided you have an inflatable canoe then you will be fine. Leave DH to the cats, tis every man for himself

and Wine vv Halloween Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/10/2015 02:14

I think the logic behind the Ebola take over was:

  1. We needed a little used topic
  2. It sort of fitted the subject matter

I don't know about the rest of the preppers but the Zombie Apocalypse is just a joke for any number of things that could happen. They range from likely and possibly imminent (earthquake for me, here in the Cascadia region) to less likely and probably not imminent (Yellowstone supervolcano, disease outbreak, serious climate change issues).

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 30/10/2015 08:49

Yup for me zombie apocalypse is just funny.

I prepare for various, realistic Events:

  • water supply cut off (last year my water supply was cut off with no warning for 48 hours)
  • power cut
  • food/medicine supply cut off (because of strikes/social unrest or other problems, anywhere in the world which might impact us)
  • public transport problems meaning I have to walk home or I'm underground when there's problems
  • fire in my building meaning we have to evacuate quickly at any time of the day/night

Once you've identified what you're prepping for, it's easy to see what you need and what you don't have yet. I'm not stocking up on weapons or buying an isolated cottage. I'm addressing problems which I think I can realistically prepare for.
