I’m wondering if anyone can give me some advice because I’m at a loss!

my twins daughters were born at 28 weeks. They had a 10 week relatively straight forward nicu stay. They were both on oxygen in hospital and came home on oxygen for approx 2 months post discharge. They automatically were diagnosed with neonatal lung disease at the time because they were on oxygen.

One of my daughters has a Bicuspid Aoritc Valve which is just genetic and if she hadn’t been premature we wouldn’t have known about it. No treatment or investigations planned at present - she’ll just have an annual scan to make sure it’s behaving.

They’re both waiting for an outpatient appt for an out of range blood level with a consultant in Birmingham but their consultant himself has said it all looks fine from scans and he’s just being extra cautious.

I Know I need to disclose re the heart valve and waiting for an appt - but what about the fact they were on oxygen and they did have neonatal lung disease? They do not have these conditions / requirements now and have been fully discharged from the respiratory nurse. But yet no one at the hospital seems to be able to give me an answer - I can’t be the first prem mum to ask these questions?! Insurance companies do not even list neonatal lung disease as a condition and the insurance guy I spoke to tried to fob it off as some other lung condition which in turn meant a ridiculous quote was given!

They are happy and healthy little girls (you wouldn’t know they are prem looking at them!) surely not every person born prematurely declares this for travel insurance purposes when it’s now a mute point in their lives?

Any help gratefully received!

Sorry I cant help but im going to follow as I had this exact same conversation with my husband today.

We are not going away until August and my little girl was born at 24 weeks and came home on oxygen, she isnt on oxygen now but we were talking about this today & we wasnt sure.

I will ask her consultant who we see in April, I can let you know what he says if you arent going away just yet. So glad your girls are happy and healthy ❤️ x
