Baby not smiling or making eye contact yet

Hello,

My baby is just under 7 weeks old but was born at 36+5 via c section due to placental problems.

He's a lovely baby but not making eye contact or smiling yet. It worries me due to risks of developmental delay with early birth. My first was smiling at this point, but he was born on his due date.

Any advice or experiences?

So really he is only 3 weeks old if born at term? If he were mine I certainly wouldn't be worrying yet ( well I would because I'd be a new mum worrying about everything). But I'd leave it till he was past the expected age of born on his due date.

My DD was born at right on 37 weeks so not counted as prem. However I did find that in the first 2 or 3 months. I really did need to allow her an extra couple of weeks to meet the milestones, I was concerned until someone pointed out that some babies had 5 more weeks in the womb than her and a lot will have had atleast 3.
So I would wait till your little ones adjusted age is at the milestone age before worrying if you can.

Thanks for your replies. I'm probably just feeling unnecessarily anxious. Good to hear others have had a similar experience.

Hi just wondering how your little one is getting on? My baby is exactly the same 7 weeks old and not smiling or making eye contact and im so worried x

Hey @Rbowbbyx sorry for the slow reply. How is your baby now? Mine is 10 weeks old but 6.5 weeks adjusting for his early birth. He's such a smiley boy now, makes pretty good eye contact and loves to coo and chat. So I was worrying for no reason.
