hello all, my baby is 11 days old and seems to sound like he has a little mucusy chest when drinking/breathing/ I'm not sure if it's milk or if it's the start of a cold since I've started bathing him.. Im petrifed if him getting RSV as he was in the nicu for a week on oxygen when born Ive woke up and seen a prem baby on TikTok in hospital with RSV and now I'm filled with anxiety .. I was supposed to have my partners mum come see the baby tommorow and I really don't want her to come now she works in a hospital and I have severe anxiety around germs and my kids she's already been moody as I said no for these first 11 days now she's going to be pissed even more but I don't care I'm terrified..

I'm sorry for your anxiety, it must be very hard. I strongly suggest getting a GP review if your baby is sounding mucousy as they are vulnerable. As for the MIL I'd play that by ear depending on if your baby is well. If your baby is unwell then its fair to say you need to reorganised date.

I would also speak to your health visitor regarding the anxiety. They should be able to refer you to appropriate services.

I've had A newborn baby with rsv ( contracted it from my very ignorant mil ! ) and awful bronchilitis which ended up in a longer than average hospital stay so I understand your worries , the good news is though that highest rates of rsv tend to happen in the autumn not the spring !

Just make sure she washes her hands , no face kisses and double check she hasn't got any signs of a cold and she should be absolutely fine to visit

@sleepandcoffee thankyou for commenting you've put me at ease. I have boxes and boxes of hand wash and anti bacterial sanitizer as my anxiety makes me go weird. I'll make sure to tell them to clean and anti bacterial their hands etc

Yes, I've had a premature tiny baby with this.

If your baby gets sleepy and isn't feeding regularly then this is another symptom.

My partner has a dry cough now, I'm so scared but he's sleeping like normal and awake like normal and he's feeding normally too as of now :/ how was your newborn?

Well, I'm afraid that negligence by the hospital meant she nearly died and ended up on life support.

My girls didn't go into SCBU even though they were very small (4.14 and 3.15 at birth). When they sent us home the smaller one was 3lbs 10 (I can barely believe that).

When she got unwell with RSV at 2 weeks old, she was admitted to the paediatric ward and they didn't really know how to care for a 3lb baby. There was no doctor on the ward and she wasn't fed for 18 hours. Then she nearly died on the ward. It was devastating.

If it wasn't for this series of negligent disasters I'm sure she would have been fine and got through the RSV ok (the bigger baby had it too but she fought it off).

I'm happy to say they are both grown up now 😀

Awwwww, poor you. I know it's hard but try to not let that spoil the enjoyment of your little one. The first days, weeks and months are so hard but so magical too ✨

(It took me a couple of years to get over what happened...)
